About
Why Sadharana?
Because extraordinary things don't always need extraordinary beginnings.
How it began
A conversation.
A cup of tea.
An unused bus.
A rescued dog.
An empty room.
A piece of land.
A person with an idea.
Another person willing to listen.
Sadharana exists to create the conditions in which these ordinary things can connect.
What we are building
We don't want to build an ecosystem that people merely consume.
We want to create common ground that people can participate in.
Three principles
Compassion.
How we meet life.
Connection.
How things find each other.
Presence.
How we know what is actually needed.
The name
Sadharana.
Sadharana comes from the idea of the common: what is shared, accessible and present between us. We create spaces, projects and connections that bring people, place, creativity, hospitality, community and care back onto common ground.
Not everything needs to become something bigger. Sometimes we simply need to make space for what is already there.
Our approach
Less separation. More relationship.
Hospitality can support community.
Community can support animal welfare.
Events can support artists.
Artists can activate spaces.
Travellers can exchange with local communities.
Technology can connect people who would otherwise never meet.
Business can create social value while remaining a business.
None of these things need to exist in isolation. Sadharana is the space between them.
On hospitality
What if hospitality wasn't an industry?
What if it was simply the act of making space for someone?
A place to sleep is hospitality. A table is hospitality. Listening can be hospitality. Creating somewhere for people to meet, work, eat, exchange ideas or feel welcome is hospitality too.
We are interested in spaces with character rather than uniformity, experiences with meaning rather than packaging, and hospitality that remains connected to the place and community around it.
On place
Start with what is already here.
Before building something new, we ask what can be reused. Before imposing an identity on a place, we ask what identity it already has.
Vehicles can become rooms. Old materials can become structures. Plants can provide privacy instead of walls. Local knowledge can solve problems better than imported solutions.
Sustainability, for us, is not a decorative feature. It is an ongoing practice of paying attention.
On technology
Technology should bring us closer.
Sadharana is interested in technology when it strengthens real-world connection rather than replacing it. Community tools can help somebody find a neighbour, discover an event, offer a skill, share a resource, support an animal, find somewhere to work or meet a collaborator.
Technology in service of community, not community in service of technology.
Come as you are.
Stay.
Visit.
Create.
Offer something.
Ask for something.
Help.
Collaborate.
Or simply come and see what is happening.
There is probably space.
