Vanantara
The space between the wild.
A welcome space, between the jungle and the sea.
What is Vanantara
Vanantara means 'within the forest' in Sanskrit. It is not a resort. It is not a retreat centre. It is a living space, built slowly, with care, from what the land offered.
We began with a piece of overgrown land in South Goa and a question: what does hospitality look like when it stops performing?
The answer is still unfolding. But it looks something like this: open structures, shared meals, long mornings, and the particular silence that only forests make.
Unhurried
No schedules. No itineraries. Time moves differently here.
Alive
The forest is not a backdrop. It is the host. You are the guest.
Shared
Spaces are communal. Meals are together. Solitude is available but never enforced.
Honest
No luxury theatre. What you find here is real: imperfect, warm, and genuinely cared for.
The spaces
Each structure at Vanantara was built by hand, from local materials, with as little intervention in the land as possible.
The Dwellings
Open-sided sleeping structures with canvas walls and raised platforms. Designed for the sound of rain and the smell of earth.
The Kitchen
A wood-fired communal kitchen where guests cook together, or simply sit and watch. Food is local, seasonal, and made with attention.
The Clearing
An open space in the canopy for gathering, movement, or doing nothing at all. Fire is lit here most evenings.
The Library
A small room of books, instruments, and things left behind by people who stayed. You are welcome to add to it.
Come and stay
Vanantara is not bookable online.
We take a small number of guests at a time. If you feel drawn to come, write to us. Tell us who you are and what you are looking for. We will write back.
